Vasant Purnima 2026 will be observed on March 3, 2026. The Purnima tithi begins on March 2 at 5:55 PM and ends on March 3 at 5:07 PM. This year, it falls on the same day as Holi and also coincides with a Chandra Grahan, which makes the day spiritually powerful yet slightly sensitive.

Purnima holds deep importance in Hindu tradition. It comes every month on the full moon day, the 15th day of the lunar fortnight. Among all, Vasant Purnima is considered especially auspicious because it arrives in the spring season and aligns with Holi festivities.

Exact Date and Tithi Timing

According to the Hindu calendar, the Purnima tithi will start on March 2, 2026 at 5:55 PM. It will conclude on March 3, 2026 at 5:07 PM. Devotees usually perform puja and vrat based on the tithi that prevails during sunrise.

This time, the presence of a lunar eclipse adds another layer of caution. Many believe that spiritual activities should be performed carefully during Grahan. Temples may follow specific guidelines, and devotees are often advised to observe purity rules.

Why Vasant Purnima Is So Special

Vasant Purnima is linked with devotion to Lord Vishnu. Many people observe Satyanarayan Vrat on this day. Fasting, prayer, and charity are considered highly rewarding. It is believed that sincere worship on this day brings health, wealth and peace.

The full moon night is also seen as spiritually charged. People offer water to the Moon God in the evening. Taking a holy dip in the Ganga or any sacred river is believed to cleanse sins. Even simple acts like feeding the needy or donating clothes are said to multiply in merit.

Since it falls on Holi this year, the atmosphere will be both festive and devotional. Yet because of the Chandra Grahan, some rituals may be adjusted in timing.

Common Puja Rituals Followed

Devotees wake up early and take a sacred bath. The house and puja space is cleaned properly. An idol or image of Lord Vishnu is placed neatly, sometimes along with Shree Yantra.

A desi ghee diya is lit. Yellow flowers are offered. Haldi or yellow sandalwood tilak is applied. Akshat is placed and a water-filled kalash is kept carefully.

Homemade sweets, fruits, tulsi leaves, meetha paan, panjeeri and panchamrit are offered as bhog. Mantras dedicated to Lord Vishnu are chanted with focus. Many families read or listen to the Satyanarayan Katha in the evening.

Before ending the fast, devotees offer water to the Moon and perform aarti. Popular aartis include Om Jai Jagdish Hare and Om Jai Laxmi Ramana. The vibration of these hymns fills the home quietly.

Mantras Chanted on This Day

Simple yet powerful mantras are repeated with faith. Om Namo Bhagvate Vasudevaye is one of the most common. Om Namo Laxmi Narayanaye Namah is also recited for prosperity. The Hare Ram Hare Krishna maha mantra is chanted by many devotees seeking peace of mind.

Faith matters more than perfection. Even a small prayer done sincerely holds weight.

Grahan Precautions to Remember

Since a Chandra Grahan falls on the same day, many people avoid cooking or eating during the eclipse period. Pregnant women are often advised to stay indoors. Temples may close briefly during the Grahan window.

After the eclipse ends, people take a bath and clean the house again before resuming normal rituals. These customs are followed as per family traditions.

Vasant Purnima 2026 brings devotion, celebration and caution together. It is a day of light, even if shadow passes briefly over the moon. Those who pray with faith, it is believed, receive blessings that last far beyond one night.
