The film Sky Force starring Akshay Kumar has been released. This film is based on India's first air strike during the war with Pakistan in 1965. The portrayal of Squadron Leader Ajjamada Boppaya Devayya in this film has sparked anger among the Kodava community of Karnataka.

People of the community have expressed disagreement over showing Squadron Leader Devayya as a Tamil in the film. People say that he belonged to the Kodava community in Kodagu, Karnataka. The Kodava community is an ethnic community located in Coorg (now Kodagu), Karnataka. These people follow military tradition.

A video of Tanya, a lawyer from the community, has gone viral, in which she has questioned the intention of the filmmakers behind portraying Squadron Leader Devayya's community in a wrong way, especially when it is believed that the film is based on his life.

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who belongs to the same community, also raised questions and wrote on social media, "Since Sky Force has been released, I want to draw your attention to a war hero on whom one of the main characters is based. Our name is the same, but I am not related to them. But I am also a Kodava like them and I thought I would draw some attention to a small martial community of our diverse country.'

Squadron Leader AB Devaiah went missing during a strike operation in enemy territory in 1965. 23 years later, he was posthumously awarded the Mahavir Chakra, the second highest military award in 1988. It is worth noting that the first Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of India, Field Marshal KM Cariappa and the third Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, General KS Thimayya, were from the Kodava community.
