The Hema Committee report has revealed that film directors and producers put pressure on women for sexual exploitation. Women who agree to their conditions are given code names. This means that they are different from other female artists, that is, they become the favourites of these producers and directors. They start getting work easily. Female artists who do not agree to the conditions are sidelined.
The report has revealed that sexual relations are demanded from women in exchange for work. Many women allege that they were forced to compromise even before starting work. Along with sexual harassment, they are also treated badly. Drunk men knock on the doors of female artists' rooms. After the release of this report, a big question has arisen regarding the safety of women in the Malayalam film industry.
Due to the intensifying movement and pressure, CM Vijayan constituted a three-member committee headed by retired Justice Hema of the Kerala High Court. At the end of 2019, this committee talked to women artists, colleagues and other staff in the Malayalam film industry and submitted its report to the government on issues including service conditions, proper remuneration for work, security arrangements at the shooting location. In which many big revelations were made. Due to the seriousness of the report, the government did not disclose this report. But the government had to disclose this report on August 19 under RTI. Since then this report has been discussed everywhere. Opposition leaders are also asking questions to the Kerala government.
