The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced an Online Remote Invigilation Examination (proctored assessment) for school counselling and wellness teachers, aiming to strengthen student support systems and standardise professional evaluation across affiliated schools. The initiative will be conducted in phases and is expected to cover around 10,000 counsellors, with the first batch already rolled out in February 2026, according to an official communication issued by Himanshu Gupta, Secretary, CBSE, on Friday.

Unlike conventional examinations, the assessment is designed to evaluate counsellors’ practical skills, ethical understanding, and real-world application, ensuring preparedness to address students’ socio-emotional needs.

The examination is being conducted on an artificial intelligence-enabled platform, Digi-Exam, which seeks to ensure a secure, transparent, and standardised evaluation process while familiarising participants with digital assessment tools.

CBSE said the initiative aims to build a future-ready assessment ecosystem centred on secure and scalable delivery, credibility in evaluation, equitable remote access, and alignment with national digital education goals as well as global best practices.

The Board has directed all affiliated schools to ensure participation of their counselling and wellness teachers as and when nominated. Nominations will be based on counsellor data available on the Oasis portal, with schools advised to regularly update the information.
