Weather Today (PC- Social Media)
Weather Update Today: Over the past two to three days, the weather across India has undergone a noticeable transformation, and today it has taken yet another decisive turn. In the coming days, residents across several states may have to brace themselves for turbulent conditions marked by thunderstorms, rainfall, and hailstorms. According to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is likely to persist in several parts of Northeast India over the next 24 hours, although its intensity is expected to gradually subside thereafter.
Heavy Rainfall Likely Across Northeastern States
The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy rainfall at isolated locations across Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Over the past 24 hours as well, these states have witnessed significant precipitation, reinforcing concerns of continued wet conditions. Meanwhile, parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh have experienced episodes of hailstorms, intensifying anxiety among farmers due to potential crop damage.
Rain and Snowfall to Continue in Western Himalayas
In the western Himalayan region, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, a prolonged spell of rain and snowfall is expected to continue until March 20. Himachal Pradesh, in particular, may witness heavy rainfall or snowfall on March 19 and 20, while Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir are also likely to remain under the grip of unsettled weather conditions.
High Alert for Hailstorms and Strong Winds
The IMD has issued a widespread alert across 25 states, warning of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorms. Wind speeds during this period may range between 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, with gusts in certain areas potentially reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour. Authorities have strongly advised people to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary exposure during adverse weather conditions.
Northern Plains to Witness Sudden Weather Shift
In North India, states such as Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan are expected to experience a significant change in weather between March 19 and 20. Thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall and hailstorms are likely across these regions. In Rajasthan, divisions including Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Bharatpur, Kota, and Ajmer are expected to see fluctuating weather patterns, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures and providing relief from the prevailing heat.
Central and Eastern India Also on Alert
In central and eastern parts of the country—particularly Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Odisha—stormy weather accompanied by rain and hail is expected to persist until March 21. Bihar, too, is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds during this period, extending the impact of the evolving weather system.
Pleasant Turn in Delhi-NCR Weather
The national capital region, Delhi-NCR, is also expected to witness a pleasant shift in weather. Between March 18 and 20, the sky is likely to remain cloudy, with possibilities of light rain or drizzle. Winds may blow at speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour, offering a welcome respite from rising temperatures.
Moderate Rainfall Expected in Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh, several areas may experience light to moderate rainfall on March 20, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. In some places, wind speeds could reach between 60 to 70 kilometers per hour. Eastern Uttar Pradesh, in particular, is expected to witness scattered rainfall on March 20 and 21.
According to the Meteorological Department, a fresh Western Disturbance is becoming active, and its impact will be visible across multiple regions of the country between March 18 and 21. This system is likely to bring down temperatures, offering temporary relief from heatwave conditions. However, the accompanying strong winds and hailstorms necessitate heightened caution for both residents and farmers.
Conclusion: Relief from Heat, But Risks Remain
In summary, while the changing weather pattern promises relief from the intensifying heat across large parts of India, it also brings with it significant risks in the form of strong winds, thunderstorms, and hailstorms. The coming days will require vigilance, preparedness, and timely precautions, especially for those in vulnerable regions. Nature, once again, reminds us of its dual character—offering comfort, but not without challenge.
