India Weather Alert: Storms, Rain, and Hail to Lash 19 States Over the Next 48 Hours
Uttar Pradesh Today Weather Updates IMD Rain Alert August 2025
Weather Update Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major nationwide alert, warning of turbulent weather conditions across large parts of the country. According to the latest forecast, nearly 19 states are likely to experience strong winds, rainfall, and hailstorms over the next 24 to 48 hours. This sudden shift in weather patterns, first observed around March 20, is expected to persist for the next three to five days, bringing with it a significant drop in temperatures across the country.
IMD Issues Strong Advisory for Northern Hill States
As per IMD, the hill states of North India—Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh—will continue to witness heavy rainfall, with higher altitudes likely to receive fresh spells of snowfall. Regions such as Dehradun, Nainital, and Shimla are expected to face strong winds, lightning strikes, and even the risk of landslides. Wind speeds in these areas may reach up to 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, adding to the severity of the situation.
Widespread Impact Across Uttar Pradesh, Including Lucknow
In the plains, Uttar Pradesh is likely to experience a widespread impact of this weather system across both western and eastern regions. Districts such as Kanpur, Agra, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, and Saharanpur are under alert for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. The state capital, Lucknow, is also expected to remain under cloudy skies with intermittent spells of rain throughout the day, indicating a clear departure from recent warm conditions.
Strong Winds and Rainfall Warning in Bihar and Delhi-NCR
Similarly, several districts in Bihar are likely to experience strong winds ranging between 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, along with heavy rainfall. In Delhi-NCR as well, the weather may change abruptly, with possibilities of dust storms, thunderstorms, and rain, creating fluctuating conditions throughout the day.
Eastern and Northeastern Regions Also on Alert
The impact of this evolving weather system will also be visible in eastern and northeastern India. Jharkhand may witness intense storm activity with wind speeds reaching 60 to 80 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. In central India, parts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan may experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain and hailstorms, adding to the widespread nature of this weather disturbance.
In southern India as well, states like Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, indicating that the weather system has a pan-India footprint.
Farmers Face Potential Crop Damage
One of the most significant concerns arising from this sudden weather change is its impact on agriculture. In regions where wheat and other crops have already matured and are ready for harvest, strong winds, rain, and hailstorms pose a serious threat of damage. The IMD has advised farmers to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures to minimize potential losses.
Cooling Relief with a Cautionary Edge
In essence, the country is witnessing a sharp and widespread transition in weather conditions. While the drop in temperature offers much-needed relief from the advancing summer heat, the accompanying storms, strong winds, and hailstorms bring with them a set of challenges that cannot be ignored. The coming days will test preparedness as much as they provide respite—reminding us once again that nature’s balance often comes with both comfort and caution.
