Pahalgam Terror AttackPakistan Panic Over India’s Stern Decisions
Pahalgam Terror Attack Update: Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Modi government has made five major decisions aimed at teaching Pakistan a lesson. These diplomatic and strategic measures have triggered panic in Pakistan, with experts claiming that they could break the backbone of the country. Alarmed by these developments, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened an emergency meeting today.
According to experts, India’s decisions are expected to significantly escalate Pakistan’s troubles on economic and diplomatic fronts. The suspension of the Indus Water Treaty could create a major water crisis in Pakistan, leading to serious consequences for agriculture and food production. Sources say this is just the beginning, and more stringent actions from India could follow in the coming days.
Five Major Decisions: A Strong Response Without Air Strikes
Back in 2019, India had carried out air strikes in response to the Pulwama attack. However, this time, after the Pahalgam attack, India has delivered a strong blow to Pakistan without using air strikes. The Modi government has decided to suspend the Indus Water Treaty with immediate effect. Additionally, the Integrated Attari Check Post has been shut down with immediate effect. People who have already crossed the border with valid authorization may return via this route before 2025.
Under the SAARC visa exemption scheme, Pakistani nationals will no longer be permitted to travel to India. Previously issued visas under this scheme will be considered canceled, and those already in India on such visas must leave within 48 hours. India has declared the defense, army, navy, and air force advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi as persona non grata, requiring them to leave the country within a week. India will also recall its own military advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
Breaking the Backbone Without Air Strikes
Experts believe these Indian decisions will have long-term consequences. Without launching a single missile, the Modi government has hit Pakistan where it hurts most. The impact has left Pakistan rattled. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif of Pakistan expressed concern, stating, “We hope India does not undertake any irresponsible steps like a surgical strike.”
He warned, “If India carries out an attack, we will respond, although such an action would be unfortunate.” Referring to previous incidents, he said, “Last time India violated our airspace, we responded. Now India has deployed over 700,000 troops in Kashmir. Someone should ask what those forces are actually doing.”
Widespread Panic in Pakistan: Shehbaz Sharif Calls Emergency Meeting
Following India’s five major decisions, there is visible panic and unrest in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an urgent meeting of the National Security Committee to discuss the next course of action. Sources indicate that the meeting will deliberate on how Pakistan should respond and manage the implications of India’s strong steps.
Accusations Against India for Lack of Evidence
The decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty is expected to have a severe impact on Pakistan. Now infuriated, Pakistan is threatening to retaliate. In an interview with a local channel, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly criticized India’s decisions, claiming that no evidence of terrorism has been provided. He said India’s announcement lacked seriousness and credibility.
He added, “Whenever a crisis arises in India, they blame Pakistan.” Dar confirmed that a meeting of the National Security Committee has been convened to draft Pakistan’s response. He labeled India’s statements as completely inappropriate and said the committee would issue a formal reaction. He also said that expressing such anger against terrorism in this manner is unwarranted.
Why Pakistan is Terrified
With India gaining full control over the Indus and its tributary rivers — which are lifelines for Pakistan — the people of the country may soon suffer from extreme water scarcity. These rivers fulfill the water needs of over 210 million people and are critical to 80% of the country’s agriculture. A disruption in water supply could devastate crop yields and cut off water to several cities, triggering nationwide unrest.
Electricity generation will also be affected, leading to potential blackouts in industries and urban centers. Power projects like Tarbela and Mangla are dependent on the water guaranteed under the treaty. The worsening crisis is pushing Pakistan to consider appealing to the United Nations Security Council.
More Stern Measures Likely from Modi Government
In 2019, India responded to the Pulwama attack with the Balakot airstrike. This time, however, India is considering going beyond airstrikes in its strategy. In the coming days, India might even sever diplomatic ties with Pakistan entirely. A global diplomatic campaign against Pakistan is also on the cards, with potential backing from Western countries.
India may also completely ban trade with Pakistan routed through the UAE, which would deal a severe blow to Pakistan’s economy. Experts believe that tougher economic and diplomatic actions may follow soon. Internationally, Pakistan’s standing appears to be weakening, and its troubles may intensify further.
