PM Modi Launches Rs 47,000 Crore Projects In Assam: What Changes For The State
PM Modi launches development projects worth over Rs 47,000 crore in Assam, including railways, roads, hydro power, and new train services to boost connectivity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Assam today to launch and start development projects worth more than Rs 47,600 crore. These projects include roads, railways, trains, energy, waterways, and infrastructure schemes across cities like Kokrajhar, Guwahati, and Silchar. The goal is simple but big. Improve connectivity, strengthen transport networks, boost clean energy, and support economic growth in the Northeast region.
Many of these projects focus on roads and railway systems because connectivity has always been a challenge in the Northeast. With these investments, the government hopes to improve travel, trade, and job opportunities across Assam.
Massive Development Push In Assam
The two-day visit by the Prime Minister includes inaugurations, foundation stone ceremonies, and Bhoomi Poojan rituals for several major projects.
These projects are spread across multiple sectors. Roads, railways, waterways, electricity, and commercial infrastructure are all included.
Such large investments are meant to accelerate development in Assam and strengthen connections between the Northeast and the rest of India.
| Sector | Major Focus |
|---|---|
| Roads | Highway and rural connectivity |
| Railways | Electrification and new trains |
| Energy | Hydro-electric power generation |
| Waterways | Cruise terminals and transport |
| Commerce | Ekta Mall and trade promotion |
This mix of infrastructure projects could reshape transportation and trade in the region.
Assam Mala 3.0 Road Project
One of the biggest announcements is the Assam Mala 3.0 road infrastructure programme.
The Prime Minister will perform Bhoomi Poojan for this initiative in Kokrajhar. The project is valued at more than Rs 3,200 crore.
Under this plan, over 900 kilometres of roads will be constructed across the state. These roads will improve connectivity between national highways and rural areas.
Better roads mean faster travel and easier movement of goods. For businesses and farmers, this kind of infrastructure makes a real difference.
| Project | Details |
|---|---|
| Scheme | Assam Mala 3.0 |
| Investment | Rs 3,200 crore |

The road network will also help remote districts connect with bigger markets.
Infrastructure Projects In Bodoland Region
The Prime Minister will also launch infrastructure projects in the Bodoland Territorial Council area.
These projects include four flyovers and two bridges. The total investment is around Rs 1,100 crore.
Such infrastructure improvements will make travel easier in the region and reduce congestion in busy towns.
Better bridges and flyovers also improve safety for commuters and help commercial vehicles move smoothly.
New Railway Projects And Train Services
Railways are another major focus of this visit. Several railway infrastructure projects will be launched or dedicated to the nation.
A new Periodic Overhauling Workshop will be established at Bashbari in Kokrajhar district. This facility will help maintain trains and improve railway operations in the region.
The workshop is expected to create employment opportunities as well.
In addition to infrastructure, three new train services will also be flagged off.
| Train Service | Route |
|---|---|
| Amrit Bharat Express | Kamakhya to Charlapalli |
| Express Train | Guwahati to New Jalpaiguri |
| Express Train | Narangi to Agartala |
These trains will improve connectivity between Assam and other regions including West Bengal, Tripura, and southern India.
Better rail connectivity often boosts tourism and trade as well.
Railway Electrification Projects
Several railway electrification projects will also be dedicated to the nation during the visit.
These include the electrification of the Rangiya–Murkongselek rail line and the Chaparmukh–Dibrugarh rail line.
Another project involves electrifying the Badarpur–Silchar and Badarpur–Churaibari railway routes.

More than 9 crore farmers are expected to benefit from this installment.
Another important announcement involves tea garden workers in Assam. Land pattas will be distributed to them, giving families legal rights to homestead land.
This step is seen as a historic move for the tea garden community.
Waterways And Tourism Projects
The development plan also includes projects connected to waterways and tourism.
Cruise terminals will be built at Bishwanath Ghat in Biswanath district and at Neamati in Jorhat district.
These terminals are expected to promote river tourism along the Brahmaputra River.

Ekta Mall And Commercial Growth
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the PM Ekta Mall in Guwahati.
This mall is planned as a commercial and cultural hub showcasing products from different states.
It will feature One District One Product items, GI-tagged goods, handicrafts, and handloom products.
For artisans and small businesses, this platform could open new markets.
What These Projects Mean For Assam
Altogether, the projects announced during this visit represent one of the largest development pushes in the state.
Road networks, railway expansion, clean energy projects, and commercial centres together can reshape Assam’s economy over time.
Better infrastructure usually leads to better trade, easier travel, and more job opportunities.
For a region that has often struggled with connectivity challenges, these investments may change daily life in noticeable ways.
