March has barely reached its midpoint, yet the intense heat of summer has already begun to make its presence felt across the country. According to the latest information from the Meteorological Department, temperatures in several regions of northwestern and western India have already risen above normal levels.

Speaking about the national capital Delhi, the weather forecast for Wednesday, March 11, 2026 suggests that the maximum temperature could reach around 37°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain near 18°C. Strong sunshine during the daytime is likely to intensify the heat, although mornings and nights may still feel slightly cool. The Meteorological Department has indicated that Delhi’s weather pattern is expected to remain largely similar for the next four days.

Possibility of Rain and Snowfall in Himalayan States

The Meteorological Department has predicted rain and snowfall in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir on March 11 and 12. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to witness rainfall and snowfall between March 11 and March 15.

In Shimla, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected on March 11 and 12, prompting the issuance of a yellow alert. During this period, wind speeds could reach 30 to 50 kilometers per hour, which may cause temporary disruptions in mountainous regions.

Alert for Thunderstorms and Rain in Punjab, Haryana and Northern India

The Meteorological Department has also predicted light rainfall in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh between March 11 and March 16.

In western Uttar Pradesh, light rain is expected on March 15 and 16. Similarly, western Rajasthan may receive rainfall on March 14, while eastern Rajasthan could experience rain on March 14 and 15.

Apart from these regions, alerts for thunderstorms and lightning have also been issued for Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh and the Vidarbha region on different days.

In the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, some areas may experience heavy rainfall.

Heatwave Threat in Rajasthan and Gujarat

The Meteorological Department has warned that conditions similar to a heatwave could develop in several districts of western Rajasthan and Gujarat.

In Gujarat’s coastal regions, the weather is expected to remain hot and humid from March 11 to March 13. Rajasthan, however, is witnessing the most intense impact of rising temperatures.

On Tuesday, Barmer recorded the highest temperature in the state at 40.6°C. In Pilani (Jhunjhunu), the mercury climbed to 39.3°C. Temperatures in Chittorgarh, Churu, Bikaner and Fatehpur in Sikar district were recorded between 37°C and 39°C.

Rain Brings Relief After Long Dry Spell in Jammu and Kashmir

In Jammu and Kashmir, rainfall and snowfall on Tuesday brought relief after a prolonged dry spell.

Snowfall was recorded in the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley, while rain was reported in the plains. In Srinagar and several surrounding areas, rainfall continued until the morning hours.

Between December 2025 and February 2026, the state recorded approximately 65% less rainfall than normal. During this period, the region received only 100.6 mm of rainfall, compared to the usual 284.9 mm.

The recent rain and snowfall are expected to provide much-needed relief to water sources and agricultural activities in the region.

Advisory for Citizens and Farmers

The Meteorological Department has advised both farmers and the general public to remain alert and regularly monitor weather updates. People have also been urged to take appropriate safety measures in response to rising heat, rainfall, snowfall, or possible storm activity.
