Shocking Truth of Tamil Nadu Assembly: 60% MLAs Have Criminal Cases, 87% Are Crorepatis!
A detailed analysis of the background of current MLAs in Tamil Nadu by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Tamil Nadu Election Watch has revealed findings that raise several serious questions.
This study is based on the affidavits submitted by 218 sitting MLAs out of the total 234 seats in the विधानसभा (Assembly) during the 2021 elections and subsequent by-elections. Currently, 7 seats are vacant.
The key findings of this analysis show that out of 218 MLAs, 131 (60%) have declared criminal cases against themselves. As many as 55 (25%) MLAs face serious charges such as murder and attempt to murder. Two MLAs have declared cases related to murder (Section 302).
In terms of assets, 189 (87%) out of the 218 MLAs are crorepatis (millionaires). The total declared assets of all MLAs amount to approximately ₹2729.87 crore.
