UP Weather Alert: Once again, the weather across Uttar Pradesh is poised for a significant transformation. The Meteorological Department has issued a major alert for the state, indicating that between March 19 and March 22, a notable shift in atmospheric conditions will unfold. With the activation of a fresh Western Disturbance, the entire region is expected to witness strong winds, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, and an increased likelihood of rainfall, signaling a period of meteorological instability.

Western Uttar Pradesh to Witness the First Impact

According to the Meteorological Department, the initial signs of this weather transition will be visible in the districts of western Uttar Pradesh from March 19 onwards. Reports suggest that nearly 18 districts—including Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, and Meerut—may experience strong winds blowing at speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour. Alongside this, a serious warning has been issued for approximately 23 districts regarding thunderstorms and lightning strikes, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain vigilant and cautious.

Further information reveals that by March 20, this weather system will extend its influence across the entire state, gradually enveloping eastern Uttar Pradesh as well. During this period, several areas are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, which is expected to bring a noticeable decline in temperatures, offering temporary relief from the rising heat.

A Welcome Respite Amid Rising Heat

In recent days, the grip of heat had begun to intensify across the state. On Tuesday, Banda emerged as the hottest district in Uttar Pradesh, recording a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Varanasi registered 37.6 degrees Celsius, while Prayagraj recorded 37.5 degrees Celsius. Notably, Banda also reported the highest nighttime temperature in the state at 22 degrees Celsius, reflecting the growing warmth even after sunset.

Rising Temperatures in Lucknow, But Change Is Imminent

The capital city of Lucknow, too, has been experiencing a pronounced rise in temperature. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature reached 35.1 degrees Celsius, surpassing the seasonal average. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature stood at 18.2 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, a slight increase in temperature may still be observed on Wednesday; however, a rapid shift in weather conditions is expected to follow soon after.

Expert Insight: Weather to Remain Unstable for 2–3 Days

Senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh from the Regional Meteorological Centre provided crucial insights into the evolving situation. He stated that due to the activation of the Western Disturbance from March 19, the weather across the state will remain unstable for the next two to three days. During this period, strong winds are expected to prevail, accompanied by intermittent drizzles or rainfall in several regions.

He further emphasized that this shift could lead to a significant drop in maximum temperatures, ranging between 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, thereby altering the current heat conditions substantially.

Severe Weather Advisory Issued

The Meteorological Department has issued an important advisory urging people to avoid venturing into open spaces during adverse weather conditions. In particular, during lightning events, individuals are advised to seek safe shelter immediately. Farmers, too, have been cautioned to take necessary precautions to safeguard their crops from potential damage caused by strong winds and rain.

Relief Coupled with Risk

In essence, the coming days are set to be meteorologically crucial for Uttar Pradesh. While the anticipated rainfall and temperature drop may bring much-needed relief from the intensifying heat, the simultaneous threat of strong winds and lightning cannot be overlooked. It is a phase where nature offers comfort, but not without caution—demanding preparedness and awareness from all.
