Uttar Pradesh is seeing a sudden weather change as rain, hailstorm, strong winds and lightning alerts have been issued for several districts. Western UP already witnessed rainfall with hail, and the weather department says this pattern may continue till February 4. Day temperatures have dropped, and cold with moisture is now clearly felt across the state.
Sudden Shift In Weather Conditions
The weather in Uttar Pradesh changed sharply over the weekend. Late Saturday night, rain started in western UP along with thunder, lightning and fast-moving winds. Areas near Delhi NCR and Uttarakhand border also saw similar conditions. On Sunday, rain continued at intervals in many districts, making the cold feel stronger than before.
Baghpat recorded the highest rainfall at around 25 mm. Bijnor received about 16 mm, while Moradabad saw nearly 15 mm of rain. This rain is not limited to western UP only. According to the weather department, it is likely to spread to central UP, Awadh region and Bundelkhand as well.
Strong Winds And Hailstorm Warning
In many areas, wind speeds touched 30 to 40 km per hour. Districts like Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar and Amroha reported hailstorm activity. These sudden hail showers may affect crops, especially standing wheat and mustard fields.
The IMD has warned that on Monday, 27 districts of western UP may face thunderstorms with hail. In around 16 districts, strong gusty winds between 40 to 50 km per hour are expected. People have been advised to stay cautious, especially during open travel.
Fog, Low Visibility And Temperature Drop
Along with rain and wind, fog has also added to the trouble. Cities like Bareilly, Prayagraj and Kanpur saw very low visibility during early morning hours. The mix of rain and fog has led to a noticeable fall in daytime temperatures.
Cold winds and moisture in the air are making mornings and evenings feel colder than usual. Many areas are seeing damp conditions, which may continue for the next two days.
Lightning Alert In Several Districts
A lightning warning has been issued for many parts of the state. Districts including Lucknow, Kanpur, Unnao, Barabanki, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri and Banda are under alert. Residents are advised to avoid open fields, trees and metal objects during thunderstorms.
Senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow, said that this unstable weather pattern may remain active till February 4. In the Terai regions, fog along with rain is also expected to continue.
Overall, UP residents should stay alert, follow local advisories and take safety measures as the weather remains unpredictable over the next few days.
