UP Weather Takes Sharp Turn As Rain Hits West, Eastern Tarai Next
UP Weather Update today: Rain, hailstorm and strong winds change Uttar Pradesh weather. Temperature to fall by 3–5°C as western disturbance affects east and west UP.
Weather Today (PC- Social Media)
Uttar Pradesh weather has changed suddenly due to a strong western disturbance. Rain and hailstorm hit western districts, while eastern UP and tarai areas are next in line today. The weather department warns of a 3 to 5 degree Celsius fall in minimum temperature across both regions in the next 48 hours.
Cold winds, clouds, and rain have already made nights colder. Bareilly recorded the coldest night, while Prayagraj stayed the warmest during the day. This shift marks a clear return of winter bite in the state.
Why UP Weather Changed So Suddenly
The main reason behind this shift is an active western disturbance. It became strong over the Himalayan region and its effect reached the plains. Once this system moved closer, clouds covered the sky and moisture increased in the air.
This disturbance pulled cold air along with rain clouds. That combination caused rainfall, hail, and gusty winds in many western districts. As the system moves east, the same conditions are expected in central and eastern UP.
Rain And Hailstorm In Western UP Districts
On Tuesday, several western districts saw light to moderate rain. NCR-adjacent areas were affected first. Meerut, Agra, Aligarh, Bareilly, Baghpat and Amroha recorded rainfall with strong winds.
In some places, hail also fell along with rain. Najibabad recorded the highest rainfall at 5.6 mm. The sudden rain cooled down the atmosphere and reduced daytime temperatures sharply.
People reported strong wind gusts that made evenings uncomfortable. Roads became slippery and visibility dropped at times.
Eastern UP And Tarai On Alert Today
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow, rain will expand further today. Eastern UP, central UP, and tarai districts are likely to see light to moderate rainfall.
Awadh region and Lucknow are also expected to receive rain during morning hours. Along with rain, winds may blow at speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour. Thunder and lightning may occur in some areas.
This rain spell is expected to be short but intense enough to impact daily routines.
Temperature Drop To Increase Cold Feeling
Weather officials have clearly warned about a temperature fall. After Wednesday, minimum temperatures in both eastern and western UP may drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius within 48 hours.
On Tuesday night, Bareilly recorded the coldest temperature at 6.1 degrees Celsius. Prayagraj recorded the highest maximum temperature at 27 degrees Celsius.
With rain and cold winds together, the chill factor will feel stronger, especially during night and early morning hours.
Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad Weather Update
Lucknow experienced drizzle and light rain late Tuesday night. By early morning, clouds covered the city and temperatures dipped further. The day temperature stayed around 24.5 degrees, while night temperature fell to nearly 11.2 degrees.
Noida and Ghaziabad also saw rain with hail in some localities. Day temperature in Ghaziabad dropped to 18 degrees, while the minimum touched close to 8 degrees.
People in NCR areas felt winter returning suddenly, even during daytime.
Strong Winds And Thunder Chances
Meteorologists say that along with rain, strong winds will continue. Wind speeds may reach 30 to 40 km per hour in several districts.
Thunder and lightning are also possible, mainly in eastern and central parts. These conditions may disturb outdoor activities and traffic movement.
Farmers are advised to stay alert as hail and wind can damage standing crops in some pockets.
Yellow Alert Issued For Rain
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for rain and cold conditions in parts of UP. Another rain possibility has also been indicated around February 1.
Officials say that this alert is precautionary. People should stay updated with local weather warnings and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain or storm conditions.
Fog And Cold Wave After Rain
After the rain spell ends, fog is expected to increase. From Thursday onwards, morning fog may return, especially in low-lying and tarai areas.
Night temperatures are expected to fall further, increasing cold wave conditions. The combination of fog and cold may reduce visibility during early hours.
Drivers are advised to be extra cautious during morning travel.
Advice For People During This Weather Change
Weather scientists have advised people to wear warm clothes before stepping out. Children and elderly people should be protected from cold winds and damp weather.
Avoid open areas during thunderstorms. Farmers should secure crops and stay updated with district-level advisories.
This weather phase may last for one to two days, but its impact on cold will stay longer.
What To Expect In Coming Days
UP weather will remain cloudy with light rain chances for a short period. Once the western disturbance weakens, rain will stop but cold conditions will strengthen.
Temperatures will remain low, fog will increase, and winter will feel more intense again. This is typical for late January weather in Uttar Pradesh.
For now, umbrellas, warm clothes, and patience are the best companions as UP experiences another winter twist.
