Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has been moved to a secure and undisclosed location following coordinated U.S. and Israeli airstrikes that reportedly killed several of the country’s most senior military commanders, according to Iranian sources.
The strikes, which hit multiple locations across Iran including Tehran, targeted high-level command infrastructure linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Sources close to Iran’s political establishment said several top IRGC commanders and senior regime officials were killed in the attacks. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those killed, but the losses are described as among the most significant blows to Iran’s military leadership in recent years.
Security forces quickly sealed off key areas of the capital, including districts housing the offices of the Supreme Leader, the presidency, and parliament. Witnesses reported roadblocks and a heavy security presence throughout central Tehran.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council instructed residents of Tehran and other major cities to remain in secure locations until further notice, as explosions were reported in several provinces.
President Masoud Pezeshkian is reported to be safe, though government operations have shifted into emergency footing.
The relocation of Khamenei underscores the gravity of the situation. As Iran’s highest authority and commander-in-chief, his security is considered paramount. Analysts say the reported killing of senior IRGC figures could significantly disrupt Iran’s military command structure and trigger a forceful response.
Tehran has vowed retaliation, warning that the strikes will be met with what officials described as a “severe and decisive” response.
The situation remains fluid, with regional tensions at their highest point in years.
