An earthquake struck Myanmar again on Sunday afternoon at around 2:30 pm. Its magnitude was measured at 5.1 on the Richter scale. Thus, in the last 3 days, 4 earthquakes of more than 5 magnitude have occurred. The epicenter of the earthquake was about 17 miles (27 KM) north of Mandalay in Myanmar.
A massive destruction occurred in Myanmar after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake at 11:50 am on Friday. This was the biggest earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand in 200 years. A geologist said that the effect of this earthquake was equivalent to the blast of 334 atomic bombs.
According to the reports, the death toll has reached 1644 till Saturday, while more than 3,408 people were injured and 139 people are missing. Meanwhile, a 30-storey building collapsed in Thailand's capital Bangkok. 12 people have died in this.
The death toll may be more than 10 thousand. This apprehension was expressed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The tremors of this earthquake were felt till Thailand, Bangladesh, China and India.
India sent relief material in 3 consignments
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that Indian Navy ships INS Satpura and INS Savitri sent 40 tonnes of relief material to Myanmar's Yangon port under Operation Brahma. Apart from this, a 118-member field hospital unit reached Mandalay city of Myanmar from Agra.
Earlier, under Operation Brahma, India sent 15 tonnes of relief material for help, including tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat food, water purifiers, solar lamps, generator sets and essential medicines.
UN gives Rs 43 crore aid to Myanmar
The United Nations gave 5 million dollars (Rs 43 crore) to Myanmar to start a relief program.
The Russian Emergency Ministry sent two planes with 120 rescue workers and essential supplies.
The Chinese rescue team also arrived. Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia will also send rescue teams.
Rescue problems due to congestion and traffic
Rescue operations are facing difficulties due to congestion on the roads and traffic jams. Transport of many medical equipment such as trauma kits, blood bags, anesthetics and essential medicines is being hindered.
The European Union (EU) has sent $ 2.7 million (Rs 23 crore) to Myanmar as emergency aid. The EU said that it stands with the people of Myanmar in this difficult situation.
